That Little Boy

I'm looking at you,
You're right in front of my face
But yet you're gone
Disappeared to another place…
People change,
And friends move on
But I never imagined,
That you'd be the one.

What happened to that little boy?
Who said, "eww girls are gross!"
"They have cooties too!"
The one who'd play
When the recess bell rung
-Who'd swing on the swing,
If it meant having fun.
The one I'd play tag with-
-In first grade-Near the slide
The one who stood by me
Throughout elementary’s tough ride

The summer to middle school
Was long and rough
Difficult things happened,
That ended the "us"
The first day of school came,
Pain and anger, still in the air
No words were spoken,
Just awkward stares

So the year passed by,
You and I both changed
But I always wondered,
What that little boy became.

When that rare moment came,
When I looked you in the eye,
I searched for that little boy
That I longed for deep inside.

But nothing came up
It was a whole different you
I couldn't believe it
This can't be true

That little boy
Really had gone away,
And had left nothing behind,
Just painful scars and great memories
That has circled my mind a thousand times

I'll just have to live on,
Knowing you were a great friend-so true.
But when that little boy went away for good...
He brought this little girl too.
