The Girl I once knew

I knew a girl once
Who had scars on her face
She was the one who put them there
She was such a strange case

She’d laugh when you’d ask her
How they came to be
She’d giggle as she’d say
“Don’t you like what you see?”

She had slices on her legs
And dices on her arms
She said she wore them
Like you’d wear a bracelet of charms

She’d always like to sit there
With a blade in her hand
Putting marks upon herself
Until it was more than she could stand

She said it was wonderful
The joy that you feel
But when you do it to yourself
It’s your own fate that you seal

I can say this to you,
And you’ve got to know it’s true
Because, you see,
I’m the girl I once knew
