A Classic Case of Wasted Youth

You don't care.
You never did.
Hidden behind your smile,
Concealed beneath your laugh
Is a heart filled with love,
There's just none in there for me.

I hate the way you say you love me,
The way you say you care
But most of all I hate the fact
That I believe every word.

I'm not stupid,
I know just when you lie to me.
I'm not as heartless as I seem to be,
You just don't understand.

I didn't take,
So I didn't receive.
You shattered my soul
And you broke my heart
Why did you do this to me?

You showed me hate, I lost your trust,
I showed you pain, you lost my respect.

I give up.
What do you want from me?
I can't be what you never were,
I'm not worth your time.
I'm a classic case of wasted youth,
A drain on all society.
I'm a disgrace to you, I know,
You wish you didn't know me.

So say I'm just an accident,
Pretend that you don't care.
Just act like it's not killing you inside
When you look into my eyes.
I refuse to listen, I have tuned you out
The day that you ignored me, from the moment that you killed me.

It's true, I know, I'm still alive,
But inside I'm as good as dead.

It's you who's done this to me,
You who's left me to fend for myself.
It's you who makes me cry at night,
You who leaves me empty inside.

I haven't told you any of this,
You haven't got a clue.
In your eyes, I'm doing just fine,
Nothing has gone wrong.

I'm falling apart-don't you see?
I need your help, but you choose to ignore me.
So take me away-what do I care?
Put me out of my misery,
And make me feel at home.
Take me to a place
Where I'm meant to be.
Let me enter the kingdom
That's been waiting for only me.
I don't belong where I am now
I am incomplete.
I want to feel whole and needed,
Not lonely and a chore.
So tell me I'm not good enough,
I already know it's true.
I'm not the daughter you've always wanted,
And I will never be.
I'm not who you think I am
You don't know me at all.

* * *

But then, my love, you came along,
You crept up oh-so-silently.
I never knew that you were there,
But you've been with me all along.
You're the one that picked me up,
And promised to never let me fall.
You showed me that there's some good in this world,
That there's something that I should live for.
I've learned to trust
And I've learned to feel.
I love you, I need you,
You are my only one.

I know that I am difficult,
But you know that's okay.
You know that I am troubled,
But that is something you embrace.
You give so much to me,
And I have nothing in return.

I've forgotten how to smile,
And I don't know how to love.
You're the better part of me,
But only I know that.

So take them all away from me,
The ones that hold me down
The ones that do not love me
For who I really am.
You are all that I need,
But something I can't have.
You're all I've ever wanted,
But you don't realize that.

You saved me from myself,
If only for a while.
You're the reason I have to live,
The one that keeps me breathing.
I lose you, I lose myself-
They will pull me under.
Your strength becomes mine,
And it gets me through the day.
But the nights are lonely without you there,
I cannot see you, I cannot feel you,
I am so alone.
I need you-don't you see?
You are a hero to me.
