Unintended Bliss

Shadows surround, but I know I'm safe and sound,
Leaning into your safety and reassurance.
Though the bitterness of the cold biting at my bare skin
is a little too much on my heavy mind,
I know that soon everything's going to be just fine.
I witnessed the impossible, saw the unmistakeable,
when the walls that could never be breached
fell to pieces as you passed over them with ease.
I reflect on the irreplaceable and the thoughts still resound;
Now again I feel the bites of the cold, angry wind:
"I'm only human..."
So I put myself back where we're riding on backs of dragonflies
as we pass the silent moon, making promises we never intended to keep.
O how beautiful the stars are in a night sky when it weeps;
But we still play those silly games
where we dodge each and every raindrop that we pass.
-I always let you win, because it made me happy
to see you smile as you did your victory lap.
And I love the days where we slow down and sit quietly
underneath the whispy willow tree,
then we'd talk of the weather and and our loving families
that you said I'd one day get to meet.
Those were the days I loved you the most,
where we'd sit and talk and maybe play our silly little games,
reciting poetry and how nice it'd be, if I could adopt your last name.
"Someday..." we said;
Then we'd jump on our dragonflies, breaking promises we didn't intend,
all the while never knowing what was ahead.
