“Your Ego Killed Our Love”
I know it is hard for you to grasp
and it must be hard to hear
but I need to speak to you right now
straight from my broken heart
I couldn’t do any better even if I tried
oh and believe me I tried I tried I tried
all the battles that you just had to win
there’s your cause for the marks on my skin
it doesn’t always have to be
you against me
it doesn’t always have to be
you against me
why can’t we just be happy again
accept me for what I am
I just want to be your friend
but you always make sure I lose
desperate in this dark room I’m clawing at the air
trying to latch onto something real
my brother is neck-deep in commercial materialism
and my father basks in the glow of kicking my ass
and my mother just agrees
wasting away in complacency
it doesn’t always have to be
you against me
it doesn’t always have to be
you against me
it doesn’t always have to be
you against me
it doesn’t always have to be
you against me
and when I ask you why you always have to be victorious
you say because you can’t let me win
it doesn’t always have to be
you against me
I never wanted to compete with you
speaking straight from my broken heart
I just wanted a friend I could depend on
I don’t want there to ever be a winner and a loser
I don’t want to fight with you anymore
so this is my white flag
this is my last stand
putting down my weapon
it doesn’t always have to be
you against me……
