the colored, starry jewelry
draping the green tree

the scent of sugaried pastries
traveling the length of the house

wrapped box castles caress the tree
each with a name

a table delicately arranged
as if for the arrival of royalty

silverware bathed and polished
to a mirrorlike perfection

ice cubes massaging the tropical punch
to a frosty tastiness

brown flakes of nutmeg
skate the eggnog's creamy surface

pearl white smiles and bright embraces
move from person to person

a family gathered around a feast
poised with warm looks

pictures simmering with such colors

so soft
perfect

so vividly

empty.
