Sister has something, Will she get something, too?
Just for her, never anything good.
She looks hopefully at Mama, her heart in her throat,
Praying that she would.

She is never allowed the same things as Sister,
Though she never has understood why.
She's their little girl, same as Sister,
But Sister has never been made to cry.

Mama looks at her coldly,
Shakes her head and sends them away.
She walks with shoulders drooping, next to Sister,
Knowing it's going to be one of THOSE days.

Sister shares her candy, she should have
Known better than to take it.
Now she's in trouble , AGAIN,
For accepting her sister's precious gift.

She hangs her head, closes her mind,
stares at her feet in shame.
She's been through this a million times,
The outcome always the same.

She shivers with fear, the moment is close,
She dare not raise her eyes.
She knows the routine, don't move a muscle,
Or she might get an ugly surprise.

Mama's like a drill sergeant, never letting up ,
From the filth rolling out of her mouth.
Mama rants about stealing, but it's really,
"You're WORTHLESS!" she might as well shout.

A well placed kick in the side, Oh, That Hurts!
She knows it might leave a mark.
But she'll agree with whatever story Mama tells,
She KNOWS , Mama's bite IS worse than her bark.

Daddy accepts without question, what Mama says,
Never raising an eyebrow in doubt.
He's too busy with his own life to pay attention,
To what life at home is REALLY about.

Mama hates her, but Daddy never sees,
How miserable his little girl has become.
He believes the stories Mama tells,
Accepting her lies as the gospel and then some.

She tries to tell Daddy, in her own little ways,
That Mama treats her like a sore or a blister.
But Daddy never hears, and she wonders
When the new baby arrives, will I be treated same as Sister?
