The Beast

It moves about your house at night.
Its large paws pounding on the ground.
Its claws clicking,
clicking
softly on rock, sidewalks, and stones.

Its crimson eyes stare in at you
as you sleep.
Its soft chuckle rings through the air.
The door opens slowly,
creak loudly.

It moves silently into your house.
It walks to your bedroom and sits by the door.
Its red eyes shine brightly in the dark hallway.

You open your door and freeze in fear.
It whispers hello and your shriek echoes in the mountains.

It licks its blood covered paws
and maw before leaving the now empty house.

Police sirens sound in the early day light.
And they step into the house,
They, too, scream upon spotting the bloody paw print on the wall.

The beast laughs madly in his home that sits surrounded
by human bone.
As the sun sets and day turns to night
he comes to look for his next bedtime snack.
