Get Away Car

My closet sits there in my room
like my own little time machine
waiting to be used.

Boxes of old games and photos line the shelf
that sits high on the wall.
baby blankets that belong to me
make a soft sitting space in the back
of my small closet.

They sit there waiting,
to turn back the time,
to bring back old memories.

It’s more than a closet,
it’s my get away car,
that sits ready to help me escape the day,
with memories packed in the trunk.
The blankets sit there waiting,
to turn back the time,
and bring back old memories.
