If I Tell You I Love You

If I tell you I love you
I have sentenced myself to death
If I tell you I love you
It’s because I felt weak or disoriented.
If I tell you I love you
I am only setting myself up for disaster
It’s like I’m asking you to come up behind me
And stab me through the heart.
I don’t wanna feel that pain
When you decide to leave.
I don’t wanna look down or away
When you compare ME to other girls
I don’t wanna cut myself
When your honest words—
Aren’t what I wanna hear.
I can’t depend on you for my everything
Because then I have forgotten how to live.
I cannot be a whole with you
Cause without you I’d only be a half.
I refuse to fall in love so soon
I refuse to see that look in your eye
I say no to this feeling inside
That wants me to just SCREAM those words—
Those 3 simple words that have so much meaning and yet
Are often overused and taken completely for granted.
I don’t wanna fall in love now…
No…I will not.
