Why I Sing the Blues

All my life I’ve been
Wandering
Sleeping, eating, working
Where I could
Down the winding path
That gleams in starlight
Expressway
Home is where the heart is.

The world around me
Doesn’t exist
Life is shattering like
Panes of ancient glass
Falling
Nothing I know is real
A nightmare I never wake up from
Life is but a dream.

Blood flows
Red tears fall
Like forgiveness
Hanging suspended
On the bridge between
Life and Death
Creation and Destruction
Romeo is dead.

Winter so cold
It burns
Stomach caving in
I’m like an animal
Hunting to survive
I’ve lost all humanity
Along with everything else
The lion sleeps tonight.

Every year of my life
Is a petal on the rose - falling
Beauty is lost
Thorns grow sharper
As blood red fades to black
Ring around the rosie
A pocket full of posies
Ashes, ashes
We all fall down.
