I wake up every morning,
And stare into that face.
The stranger in the mirror,
Beautiful, but a disgrace.
She smiles empty smiles.
She cries those silent tears.
Invisible to everyone,
Has it been this way for years?
At school she pretends to be happy,
To stop the staring eyes.
Still their death stares penetrate her.
She’s the victim of their lies.
Rumors around every corner.
Enemies behind every friend.
She deal with the shit day in, day out.
Wondering if it will ever end.
Returning home after school,
Time to face the family.
Nothing but anger and turmoil,
It always ends in a calamity.
Locked alone in her room,
She wallows in self pity.
The beautiful stranger then breaks down.
Trying to convince her self she’s pretty.
On her way to a true friend’s house.
She walks fast with her head down.
Passerby’s in cars drive on,
Still her thoughts deplete those sounds.
She’s now sitting in her friend’s room,
Laughing so hard she almost cries.
Oh, how they make her happy!
She looks at them and sighs.
She thinks of them as heroes,
Cause they always save her day.
Mom calls, it’s time to leave,
Though she wishes she could stay
Sitting at home, again in her room.
It’s poetry she writes.
Writer’s block cuts her words short,
So a cigarette she lights.
After her cigarette, she heads to the shower,
To wash her pain away.
Thoughts of school come back to her.
How she wishes for better days.
She’s done with her shower and she’s back at the mirror.
She’s examining her every curve.
Thinking about how she could look better,
But this body is what she deserves.
Her pain and anguish come back again.
A rock lodges in her throat.
She wishes she was happy here,
She’s still holding on to that last bit of hope.
Through her eyes, she’s ugly.
Others tell her she’s so wrong.
She ponders for a moment,
Then she hears her favorite song.
Screaming the lyrics at the top of her lungs,
She knows everyone can hear.
She continues singing until the song ends.
Now it’s time to face her fears.
Still standing at her mirror,
She puts on another fake smile.
“Too fake,” she says to herself,
So she keeps on trying for awhile.
She did not succeed at that feat tonight,
So she tries to go to bed.
Thinking still about things being better.
She sort of wishes she were dead.
Laying her head down to finally sleep,
The beautiful stranger cries.
She thinks the world is against her,
And now inside, she slowly dies.
