she's fine

"I'm fine"....
the word started
that very day
when he left her alone
and she kept repeating
that
she's fine
people would cry for her
look at her
and say how bitter
how sad
and she'd say
that
she's fine
every question they ask
they'd expect its answer
for she'd just keep saying
and chanting
that
she's fine
she never knew why she kept repeating it
through the traces of sadness
that her tears had left
she'd just keep saying
that
she's fine
maybe to convince herself
maybe to stay put together
maybe to live denial
and just
try to believe
that
she's fine
she heard the cries
of every part of her body
calling his name
telling him they still believe in his return
that they need him
and she'd keep telling them
she's fine
they'd shut her up
and get annoyed
by her repetitive whispers
her solemn words
her grim expressions
and the million swears she's sworn
that
she's fine
everyone lost hope
she has gone insane
they'd say
she won't take him back
and yet she is here
all alone
knowing
how ironic it sounded
when she'd say that
she's fine
