The first time I saw you
You were with your friends.
You tried to impress me
But my eyes skipped over yours
And went to his.
Those eyes that I thought
Saw into my soul.
He was the one
I saw every night in my dreams.
In my eyes he could only be perfect
A man made just for me.

I was blind to the flaws
That seeped from his existence.
He ripped my heart off my sleeve
And flaunted it for all to see
Yet somehow
I always found a shred of forgiveness
In myself
To give him another chance.

But you were the one
Who was always there
A shoulder to cry on,
Familiar arms to sink into
I don't know why I never saw before
that you were the one,
the only one,
who really and truly cared.

Now he’s gone
My mind no longer clouded over
With fake "I love you"s
And meaningless kisses.
I finally see that all I needed
Was your unconditional love
To heal my torn and bloody heart
To free my soul
From its cold warped cage
And tear down the walls
That have surrounded me for so long
It’s hard to remember what its like
To live without them.

I cant wait to tell you what I’ve realized.
My heart races just thinking
Of how you always understood before
And how I know you’ll take me into your arms
Without doubt or question of my decision.
And I imagine holding you in my arms
As more than just a friend.

Then I get a call.
The ringing interrupting my blissful daydream.
But I don't mind
My face lights up when I hear your voice
You say you have something important to tell me.
I listen patiently as you speak
It takes a few seconds
For what you’ve said to sink in
Because I am so anxious
To tell you that I finally saw the truth
That I love you

But now I can never tell you
Silent tears fall down my still smiling face
My world comes crashing down
I try to sound happy for you
But I cant control my voice and it cracks
For you’ve just told me
that you’ve found the girl of your dreams
And it isn’t me.
