The eyes were filled with hopelessness
Staring straight at me
There was no life left there
Just emptiness as far as I could see
It was as if someone took all of the
Hope and joy out of their life
And they were left with
Pain, heartache and strife
Oh, how I wanted to look away
The eyes were way too sad
As if all the good things were
Replaced by the bad
It scared me to see all
Of that pain and sorrow
That was reflected, they had
Lost all hope for tomorrow
The tears were there
Just waiting to fall
Hanging by a thread
Since that dreaded call
Slowly a fake smile
Warms my face
The sadness that was once there
Is gone without a trace
As I turn away from that mirror
I'm left to doubt
Why no one else sees
What my pain is all about
