Good-Byes
I held his hands,
And stared into his eyes,
And there he stands,
Saying his good-byes.
He pulls into my driveway,
Rain coming down cold,
The sun has gone down for the day,
Lights from his black car shine in gold.
There I stand in my front yard,
The bitter breeze blowing my flowered skirt,
The rain starts to pour down hard,
The rain meets my tears which mixes with the dirt.
Slowly you get out of your car,
My long hair now dripping wet,
It's a cloudy sky without a single star,
My heart isn't ready to be upset.
You take my cold hands dripping rain,
And look into my eyes filled with tears,
You see my hurt and also feel pain,
This brings back all of my fears.
You run one hand though my wet hair,
For a minute my lips you gently kiss,
Only to tell me you could no longer be there,
And I, you will always remember and miss.
My hands still on your dripping face,
I try to tell you no,
But you only say that you need your space,
"Goodbye, It's time for me to go."
You turn away, slowly, leaving me crying,
You pause and look back,
Trying to catch the tears, felt like I was dying,
Returning to your car of pure black.
Your car engine roars and lights turn on,
Gradually you back out,
I cry, running out onto my lawn,
Trying to get you to come back I shout.
You turn the corner, I stop in the street,
And as I watch you leave,
Pain goes though me with every beat,
Not knowing what happened, not wanting to believe.
I held his hands,
And stared into his eyes,
And there he stands,
Saying his good-byes.
