A Wonderful Memory

An old, wrinkled woman with gray and white hair
tired, blue eyes that no longer sparkle or shine,
and tightly pressed lips surrounded by aging wrinkles
sits in her dusty room looking out the weather beaten window.
As her eyelids close, she thinks of a girl she once knew
A girl with shiny, springy blonde curls
crystal blue eyes covered by her long, batty eyelashes
and perfectly shaped red lips pressed over her sparkling white teeth.
The girl is walking along the sunny beach hand in hand
with a handsome young man with a brilliant smile
and green eyes that shine like jewels.
As they walk, their feet press deep into the white sand and
cool blue water slaps against their toes.
Suddenly, they stop walking and the young man gets down
on his knees and pulls out a brilliant, shimmering diamond ring.
The old woman opens her tired, misty, blue eyes and
as a teardrop rolls down her wrinkled cheek,
she smiles.
