Staring out of her window
Down at the ground far below
Green hills rolling to a land
She knew that she could never know

To touch the earth unburdened
Unchained, unwatched, unknown
To fly her cage of iron links
And walk the hills alone

To feel the rain upon her face
Instead of her own salty tears
To throw of all that bound her
And break free of this castle of fears

But the doors were locked and bolted
Of this she knew all too well
And so that she couldn’t run nor hide
A chain necklace of a tiny bell

So each day she prayed for rescue
But each day was always the same
For came no knight to save her
For no one ever came

Then one day it hit her
That there was but one way out
And she climbed up on the window-ledge
And all did hear her shout

“No more am I a prisoner
For I found how I may be free,
If it means I have to die
Than that’s how it shall be”

And she stepped out of the window
Gripping her chain as she fell
And in a last defiance
She rang her tiny bell.
