my heart

Abused and mistreated,
By the ones I held so close.

Ripped out and fed to me
On a dingy, dirty plate.

It’s fragile and weak,
But apparently you are the one it does seek.

It’s a little broken,
Held together with a band-aid.

It once was shattered,
So excuse the duck tape.

It cried for months
After the pain it endured.

But it’s ready for some one new
And that someone is you.

All I ask of you,
Is just to protect it and keep it warm

It longs to be near you
For the companionship of yours.
