There he laid cold and motionless in the street,
With caution tape surrounding him, covered in a white sheet.
This was very upsetting and horrible to see,
I didn't even think who it might turn out to be.
Soon again I smiled as my day went on,
Little did I know that my own daddy was gone.

I am a little daughter of six with two brothers of eight and four,
And our daddy we did look up to and greatly adore.
His anniversary of ten years with my mommy was coming up quick,
He is a 36 year old doctor who lives to help the sick.
But he always found time to be with his family at home,
He was an amazing man and his love was always shown.

Every single morning before our daddy left for his day at work,
He would walk down our hall as we slept to give us a kiss and a smirk.
Later that day we were home from the store and got a call,
And that's when we knew never again he would walk that hall.
Never again would we wake up every morning to daddy's gentle kiss,
Never again would we try to hug him forever so his work he would miss.

I keep many pictures of my daddy right next to my bed,
Always hoping to awaken to daddy's kiss on my forehead.
I sit on our front porch and stare into the rainy sky,
The rain mixes with my tears as I wonder why.
The tears keep on coming as I think of how he's gone,
Waiting for him to pull up in his car, I lay on the front lawn.

It is daddy's day at school today but mine can't come,
I see my friends with their daddy's and hear where they are from.
I go home only to lay inside and cry myself to sleep,
This is usually when we play together, but me and mommy get into the jeep.
We drive off to daddy's funeral to say our final goodbye,
Not wanted to believe that our daddy really did die.

Every night I fall asleep crying with my light on,
Hoping he'd come home just to kiss my forehead at dawn.
