let’s run away right now; just the two of us
and just make it to our wedding at midnight
we’ll walk down the aisle to the alter by the lake
and we’ll say our vows by the company of starlight
we’ll be announced man and wife to only the darkness
and you’ll kiss your soaking bride under sheets of rain
hold the reception by light of the full moon
and we’ll look at each other finally sharing your name
we’ll dance together with fireflies in our ballroom
and the chirping of crickets will be our song
you’ll sing in my ear the sweetest of nothings
and I’ll squeeze your hand as I harmonize along
we’ll be high on celebration and drunk in love
as we laugh and dance all cares away
you’ll spin me around until I fall to the ground
and then you’ll lie beside me and we’ll love the night away
I’ll feel your weight on top of me and squeeze your arm
as I am screaming with what voice that remains
and the movement slows as my lungs explode…
again, I have to scream out your name
a blanket of early morning dew will shelter us
as we lie in each other’s arms steadily breathing
and you’ll kiss my forehead as I drift away
and the morning will ascend as together we begin sleeping
and when I awake I’ll be staring into your eyes as you will mine
because I’ll never sleep another night all alone
and we’ll both share a smile as I place my hand in yours
and together, we’ll begin walking to wherever we find home
