He used to kiss her
Everytime he came home
But now has changed
As she sits broken and alone
She smells the alcohol
It lingers on as he speaks
Remarks so harsh, words so cold
As her heart becomes so weak
She can see the hatred in his eyes
As he pushes her body away
He takes another drink and clarifies
He doesn't want her around today
Tonight she sleeps alone again
While in his mind he tries to run away
She wont speak the words aloud, but within
"Please won't you stay sober today?"
She likes to watch him sleep at night
Then no arguments can occur
But she doesn't want to touch him
He'll just get mad at her
She tries to call him on the phone
But he will not speak to her
He only tries to block her out
Ignoring her is what he would prefer
He chose the beer again tonight
But he just doesn't see
As he takes a swallow from the bottle
He is her absolute everything
She loves him so much
But it's the same as yesterday
She sweetly tries to ask him
"Please would you stay sober today?"
As he takes another swig
She wonders if she's ever been really loved
The way he acts towards her
Says she's never been good enough
She doesn't understand how he can smile so fake
How he can't just stay with her
She gave him her heart to take
But he can't stand to be near her
The alcohol is consuming him
He doesn't know if he wants her
He said maybe they could try again
As he spoke the words had slurred
She wonders who she is without him
She doesn't want him to stray away
She leans in for a kiss and whispers in his ear
"Can you please stay sober today?"
Everyone harbors a secret hatred
That eats at them inside
Hers is that of the alcoholism
That has caused this great divide
She trembles as she speaks
So afraid he'll detonate
But still she stood up for their love
In spite of all of his hate
She's been cheated and she's been wronged
She believes that she's no good
He has strung her along
Just like he knew he could
But she stays and waits
For the love he doesn't display
Every morning she awakes and thinks
"Please can you stay sober today?"
