life restored

The light fades to darkness
And the air begins to thicken
As day turns to night.
And over the mountains
And through the valleys
The road that never ends,
Continuously leading on
Toward a new day.
Running from the shadows
The day to day
Highs and lows.
It’s not the mountains
Or the valleys,
I'm running from
All the small hills
And potholes and ditches
The everyday disappointments, frustrations
Killing the heart within.
But at the end of the day
I just remember
The little room next door,
Within it lies a little boy.
And as he shuts his eyes for sleep
Somehow this great big world
Isn’t so powerful
And the hills and ditches
Are just as they seem
Only small things.
And the life that left my body
Is softly restored
So that I may wake that tiny boy each and every morning
