Two lovers collapse in a tangle of sheets and limbs,
The smell of rum lingering in the air.
The light of still-burning candles
Dances across the sleeping forms
As a soft breeze swirls through the open window.
Silky curtains jump on the rushing wind,
Teasing the little flames beneath them.
Wisps of acrid smoke begin to rise
While the cloth smolders and burns.
Floating embers lap up the puddles of alcohol,
And flames continue their dance across the floor.
Burning candles cast their shadows
Across the two peaceful faces,
Dreaming of butterfly kisses,
Numbed senses mistaking the oppressive heat
Of the fire mounting the skirt of the bed
For that of a blissful summer night.
The fiery arms lick and embrace
The sinfully exhausted bodies,
Pulling them into an eternity
Of burning candles.
A night of such love and passion
Could have no better end.
