Too much to ask

I thought we took a step together
Forged ahead onto new ground
You led the way

I was filling someone else’s shoes
Important chatter to fill the void
I followed willingly

I didn’t ask to be your Sun
Didn’t need you to be mine
A daily ray of light was enough

It comes every once in awhile
The smile that makes my day
Whenever you need it returned

I was crazy to think I’d fit
An acquaintance, last on the list
I guess it was just too much to ask
