Angel in the Rearview Mirror

Driving along,
Just me and the radio,
Then thoughts of him,
Come into my head,
Tears begin to fall,
And here comes the rain,
Making my vision blurred,
As another car and I collide,
I get airborne,
Dancing with fate,
Among the night sky,
Life passes before my eyes,
Debris flying everywhere,
As I crash into the wet earth,
I get ejected from the car,
Semi-conscience when I realize,
I’m lying on the dark pavement,
Surrounded by blood,
All appears to be mine,
The ambulance is drawing near,
It’s getting impossible to breathe,
Traffic is backing up for miles,
My body lies here helplessly,
After a long pause,
The traffic starts back up again,
Everything is getting darker now,
My thoughts are becoming distant,
Cherished memories seem pointless,
That’s where I got buried,
Off old route 13,
Where my life was wasted,
And I only became,
A wooden cross,
On the side of the road,
And a distant memory,
In someone’s rearview mirror.
