A little piece of sea glass,
Drifting on a wave.
Its edge a little jagged,
Its story one to save.
Oh little piece of sea glass,
With every swell and crest,
That jagged edge will smooth itself,
The salt will do the rest.
Oh little piece of sea glass,
Carelessly you sail.
But you find that as dusk settles,
You've been eaten by a whale!
Oh little piece of sea glass,
That whale does not like you!
And as you're spit from out his teeth,
You're caught and split in two!
Oh little piece of sea glass,
Your halves are one no more.
And sadly now your brother,
Must hit the ocean floor.
Oh little piece of sea glass,
Do not fret, I say.
You'll see that things will brighten,
When tomorrow finds today.
Oh little piece of sea glass,
Green as summer's leaf,
You mind your way among the waves,
When Boom! You hit the reef!
Oh little piece of sea glass,
Now you feel the tide.
You dry your soul as morning comes,
And in sunlight, you abide.
Oh little piece of sea glass,
Come out from neath that sand,
Oh little piece of sea glass,
Resting in my hand.
