He Saved Her

Crimes of passion
Love and lust
Is there anyone here
Who’d dare to trust
That crooked old man who lives down the street?
Is his innocence obsolete?

He knew he loved her
And says he does still
But that is still no license to kill
And as for the demon that drifted his way
Well, that is for another day

I tell you now
About his craze
And why he now spends all his days
Rocking himself on his porch in his chair
Instead of a death by electric air

He once had a maiden
Fair and bright
They’d just been married a couple of nights
And they were perfect, from what we saw
I never thought I’d see those two fall

But he found a book that told of the end
With fire and dragons; both evil’s friend
The book said that death was the only way out
And that’s what her murder was all about

The days passed by
He continued to read
Of a world of hate
Of a world of greed
And the words of the book consumed his mind
He felt that he was quite refined

But he knew that his wife did not believe
And why ever not, he could never conceive
But he’d not let those dragons devour his wife
“Do you love me?” he asked, as he took out a knife

She screamed and she ran
Then she fell to the floor
He slit her throat by the bathroom door
He watched as the blood poured from her head
And covered the pages of the book he’d read

“I did it for you babe,” was all he could say
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry, but it was god’s way."
He wept while he watched as an aid team arrived
Silently hoping that she had survived

Later in court he shocked the jury
When he told them he’d saved her from evil’s fury
His lawyer told them he’d gone insane
And that prison was no place to hold this bane

So they sent him away
To a mad man’s clinic
For indeed this man, no doubt, was a cynic
He served forty years for first degree murder
And every night as he slept he heard her
Every night he’d weep for her

He served his time
And now he’s free
He’s as old a man as man could be
And he sits all day in his rocking chair
Waiting for the doom’s day’s air
Waiting, to join his maiden fair.
