Behind Closed Walls

Alone
In a house filled with empty space
Accompanied by another exhausted person
Tired of life and every unwelcomed detail of it
But protected by walls we smile jovially
Because as thunder out does the cantankerous wails
That echo from the world awaiting outside
We lay our heads dilatorily on unfluffed pillows
Graced with pillow cases of dull colours
As we look at each other with a rare thought
That maybe everything would be alright;
That while snuggled under old, perennial blankets
On the abused couched in the lonely room
Maybe we could be content with life’s missiles
As it shoots without warning at the unsuspecting
Because while the world slumbers, our eyes
Stay staring, reflecting each others shine
As the small light does wonders to
Outline the smooth edges on our worn out faces
That are no longer harassed by gravity
Which before formed the undesired frowns and bags
That once bestowed themselves upon us
And although we know this cannot last
And we know it isn’t real
We cherish this because this is as happy
As we are ever going to feel
