Quicksand Musical

Butterflies dance enthusiastically in my stomach
Like an insect filled Broadway musical
And I’m a hostage to these sensational snakes
Making their zig-zag way beneath my skin
As cats catch my try-hard tongue off guard
And leave me coughing up venturesome words
An earthquake conquers my hands as they shake,
Squirming like ferrets held by the tips of their tails
My eyes shift involuntarily as if in a battlefield
Attempting to avoid your spellbinding black holes
But in the end your voice takes me like quicksand
And I sink to the depths of your unwavering words
As the catastrophic conclusion fills my utmost fears;
That I’m left bashful just at your perfunctory presence
And I’m drop-dead frightened with this immature feeling
This throttling idea that now lurks within me, unsubtly may I add
But the scariest part is the unfading possibility
That you may not feel the same
