White Noise

There she was all alone
Sitting day after day by the phone
Waiting for his call
He said I'll see you soon
And of that she was sure
So day by day she waited
Every day played it's part in what seemed like forever
It's all worth it she said
As long as we're together
Months went by
That call did not come
Flowers wilted and so had the sun
Alone in the darkness she had become
Leaves fell from the trees
And frost crept up the windows
Down her cheek many a tear flows
But somehow hope he will call still grows
You can see her now sitting by the window
The phone by her side
Listening to the white noise that drowns out her thoughts
Years go by
It's all the same
Ring ring
The phone's ringing
It's him
She's dreaming again
But she never awoke from that dream
And now I'll leave you all questioning
Was any of it real?
