Should've Known

Let’s whisper illusions into my ear
So my head can turn throughout the night
Like a merry-go-round never ending
Tormented by that falsely merry tune

Please tell me that you never
Meant to snap my morals and bury me
In the very ashes of this selfish waltz
Because I don’t want to know that you succeeded

And I’m searching for a beat
To tell me warm blood still pumps within you
That your chest contains a loving machine
But that your factory had just boycotted me

I should’ve known it would be hollow
I should’ve known it would be hollow

I guess it’s best that we
Strip ourselves of this intimate title
And tie our past to a rock
Before sending it plunging into the ocean

Let’s sweep up our footprints
Because I’ll find my way back home
Without you as my tin man
I just need to click my heels together now

And lastly I shall
Erase your name from all the notes
So that history won’t have an echo
This is one war that I’ll make sure
Won’t go into the books

Because I lost it
