The Day England Cried

Warm afternoon
Sitting in the living room
Listening to music by someone before my time
Bored so I put on the tele

Turn on the news
The weather flips by
Then the sport scores
Then a rude interruption
Of the anchormans joke

“We have a breaking story”, says the man
“There has been a terrible car accident in France.”
How is this news I thought.
“There were 3 people in it. One of them is Lady Di.”

I sit confused
Hearing the sobs of a grown woman
My aunt
“She died when she reached the hospital”
Comes another voice

This is the day England cried
She left two children behind
