The Beginning of the End

I've begun letting go, started to move on,
Slowly letting the bond between us shatter into a thousand pieces,
Leaving everything behind, never turning back,
Emotions dying like a single red rose that wastes away with time,
The intense burning fire inside dimming to merely a flicker.

The space between us continues to grow,
Like a message in a bottle sent out to sea,
The time we spent together so sweet,
Has begun to sour like apple cider left to rot,
Space and time will pass until the bitter end.

I still think of us and how it was,
It's all changed now like that of a deciduous tree in autumn,
One day I'll learn to trust, to feel love once more,
Even smell the nectar of apple blossoms in spring,
But, until then goodbye, my former best friend...
