I wish my love were more mature
So we could stop and think this through
I can't stand being so unsure
About whether this feeling is true

All those evenings in your arms
Who'd have guessed we weren't ready
Our sensitive emotions caused us harm
We were vulnerable and petty

So these days are the worst, they say
But worse when faced alone
I wish that somehow we may
Travel together through this unknown

And how come we can't love again?
You said I did nothing wrong
Why are you so hard to understand?
When I've known you all along

We're not meant to grow on our own
I don't know how to say I care
All I can do is what I've been shown
But I promise I'll always be there
