Unnecessary Apologies

Feathered dreams to hot wax nightmares
Secret worries, must admire

The way you lead me, mentally fed me
Everything I wanted to hear -
Pointed to the sign, darkly underlined,
Waited until I got near

Then switched the rails so that I swerved,
Drowned by justice you should have served.

Dared by awkward sighs, lies answered with lies
We were guilty against plea -
Alibi too thick, wrongly judged so quick
Much too fast for us to see

That our actions were reflections
Of themselves without corrections,

Not worth all our shouts, pulled by shadowed doubt,
Regrets whisper and weld -
Old worded windmills, memory landfills
Who’s entries will be compelled.

The truth is hanging in the air
The one that makes my breath unfair,

Held by dignity, sin’s virginity,
But I won’t save it from the hush.
Blunt embarrassment, a letter still unsent
Not worth this angelic blush.

Because although you look lonely
In those deep waters below me
My feet are soaking wet.
