The Snake

A sly, slithering creature.
Though cognizant of its danger,
One cannot help but be tantalized
By its beautifully deceptive skin.
The oranges,
The yellows,
The reds,
All possess a foreboding quality,
Yet the snake manages to entice.
Its natural beauty provides a false pretense
That not all are alike,
That not all are evil,
That not all should be regarded with suspicion.
But once within its betraying grasp,
One realizes how quickly
It sheds its skin
And does not hesitate
To deceive,
To poison,
To kill.
