Moonlight shone through the windows,
Dazinglly my eyes were a gape.
My form lay piled beneath covers,
12:17, and I still was awake.
Creaks and groans from walls old timbers,
Proved to be my only true company.
A clock could be heard faintly ticking,
I was alone in the highest degree.
Beside me lay a friend,
One of many years.
Two ears to listen, two eyes to see,
One anxious to always hear.
I wandered my muddled mind,
Sadness cornered my every thought.
Thinking of all the mistakes made,
My every little flaw.
Fears came to mind,
Nightmares filled the place.
With lightening speed, eyes closed tight;
I wrapped him in a firm embrace.
I let out an exasperated sigh,
It came more as a pitiful sob.
Teddy bears don’t hug back,
But sometimes they’re all you’ve got...
