Its not right
its not fair
but no one seems to care
we criticize and justify
but can’t accept and live our lives
on the past we dwell
from decades ago
when life was unjust
and created our foes
but how do we determine
where to draw the line
and when are a minorities advantages
deemed too fine
or to large
sit back?
or take charge
double standards
hypocrisy
say a prayer
take a knee
it won’t change
it hasn’t yet.
It takes time?
Forever I’ll bet
how do I react
when a racist act occurs
and me pale as snow
receives all the slurs?
The negative put downs
the words so cold
the illiterate comments
but I don’t fold
I stand my ground
and wish for a day
that the world will change
and we’ll all be one
no reference to the past
and the things that have been done
we’ll rise together
and fall the same
not see this as
a petty game
we’ll lift each other up
and throw our hands high
and blind ourselves to the colors
from which we are bind.
