Hey, You!

Father, oh father -
Okay, that's just too formal.
Too stiff, too rigid,
And just plain not normal.

So.
Let's start again,
Shall we?

Daddy, oh daddy -
Nope, too childish.
Too much of that sweetish tone
Of innocent wish.

Okay.
Care to try again?
Yes, hopefully this time
It'll work right.

Pops, oh pops -
I'll just stop this here.
Too awkward,
Too weird.

Hm.
Oh well.
I'll try a different approach then.

You, yeah, you!
That's right,
You're who I'm talking to.

I just want to tell you something,
Something meaningful and deep -
Something stilling,
And something that your heart will keep.

But sadly,
I can think of nothing to say.
No sentence in my mind,
No quote to play.

I can't think of a word,
To describe what I need to tell.
I can't find a synonym,
That'll match it so well.

There's nothing in a thesaurus,
No glossary or tome,
There's nothing that I know of,
That'll hit straight to home.

So, I guess I'll just plot it in words,
Structure it out,
In nouns,
And verbs.

That's always been something I'm good at,
Something I know you appreciate,
No matter how much you tease me,
So often of late.

But. I suppose it's time
We get going with this,
This something I need to get out
Before I forget.

I need to tell you that -
Um. That...
Oh, how to say this...
I'm usually so well versed with words,
But now this is just confusing me,
Straight out of my nerves.

Okay, here it goes;
I've planned it all out,
Calculated it,
And made sure it was stout.

Father,
Daddy,
Pops,
Hey you!

I wanted to let you know,
How I feel about you.

I think your great,
An enigma by yourself.
Kind hearted,
And lovely in ways
I cannot start to express.

You love your kids,
And you love your wife,
You're an easy going person,
With a hard-working life.

You love what you do,
I can see that it's true.
Even if you get greasy,
And covered in goo.

Even if your fingers are permanently stained,
It's still all apart of you.

All apart of the father I love,
That I cherish with the deepest parts of my heart,
The father that may not be book wise,
But is somehow still super smart.

How you did it, I'll never know.
How you became so great,
I'm sure you'll never show.
Maybe it's just how you are?
How you were raised to be?
A kind hearted daddy,
With every trick up his sleeve.

How you did it...
Might always be a mystery.
But what I know, for sure,
Without a doubt in the world,
Is that no other little girl,
Could love their daddy more.
