My Best Friend

How has this come to be?
A fiend stands beside me.
A fate, so grim and stark,
Threatens as I bond with the dark.
How this spring turnaround?
My fears were certainly well found.
I had seen the threat,
Lurking somewhere in the dark,
There lay imminent death.
And yet, today, I revel in the dark.

She consoles with my misery,
Relieves me of the agony.
Hath I been so blind,
As not to welcome such a mind?
Surely not so boorish now,
I must treat her well.
What a fool I had been!
A state of dark, I had seen.
At last, I am enlightened,
As I follow my newfound friend.
The dark beckons me in further,
I must be devoid of all fear,
To rid myself of this life, so sere.
Surely, friend, the path ahead must be clear?
