Painful Recollection

Am I a fool to allow this to be?
Wasting every last breath living in pain,
Renouncing myself with the severity of this disdain.
Without sense of direction, no way to see,
Just deafening the cries of hopeless decree.
And though i seek shelter from these serenades of bane,
The answer is laid out plain:
I am a fool to know this was meant for me.

Succumbing to this piece by piece,
I let go of all that I hold dear.
Though death is my greatest fear,
I choose to put my weary heart at ease.
And now to wonder along asking the question,
Could this love have been something more, not just a painful recollection?
