I am not
Your girlfriend, your wife, your lover, your mother
Or the one who stood you up the night of your prom
Or your angel, your queen or your anything
Or your pet that you can lock away

You are not
My boyfriend, husband, lover or father
Or the boy that made me feel like dirt in school
Or my savior, my king, or my everything
Or my boss to tell me all the rules

Our roles are so much more than that
I am the distraction from a life with no action
I am the lubricant to the life that’s dry and cracked
I am the pill to your life's pained ills
I am the banshee scream to a life that’s too serene
I am unleashed energy when life gets lethargic
I am so much more complex
I am fantasy and the smell of anticipated sex

I am nothing more than a surrogate without a face
I am everything you need with no release
I am sin without guilt or absolution
I am the question in the face of your solutions

You won’t remember me tomorrow
Don’t look in my eyes today
I am nothing more than escape
In a hallway of mirrors with false doors
Don’t follow me
Don’t remember me
I’ve already forgotten you
