Tear the wings from a butterfly
Take away the brightly colored gossamer
And you’ll see they were nothing more than a costume
Hiding a worm that wanted to fly
Not very different than something
Used only for bait
Placed on a hook and dangled on a pole
Waiting to entice the shark
Who only devours you with his hunger
As you’re pulled deeper into his dark home
Take me away from the sharks
Get me off this pole
Give me back my wings
And I’ll learn to fly again
