Talking to the Wind

He's suppose to be her daddy,
he's meant to be her best friend,
but when she tries to talk to him,
she's talking to the wind.
She tries to express her feelings,
and she wishes that he'd care,
but her words go unacknowledged,
they just float along the air.
She grows to be a woman,
she's no longer a little girl,
her thoughts float in the wind
and scatter around the world.
She asks herself why he left,
she wants to know why he doesn't love her.
She's never known what it is to love him,
and why she can't love another.
Trying to reconcile with him,
her efforts are fruitless.
Pull her words out of the air,
because her hopes are gone; it's useless.
Don't wait any longer,
hear the words she has to say,
because if you wait too long,
it just might be too late.
She finds herself on the grass
standing in front of his grave,
she's been dreading for so long
coming here on this day.
Her eyes are thick with sadness
as she whispers that she loves him.
She says, "I miss you, Daddy,"
but she's talking to the wind.
