Stealing Time

The moment we first met
and your eyes locked with mine,
we stopped the world from spinning,
freezing all of time.
The circumstances shifted,
something too hard to explain,
crushing our hopeful future,
bringing never ending pain.
We would sneak away together,
just your hand in mine,
we'd steal away for hours,
we went on stealing time.
But time can change people,
and time can break hearts.
As time faded away,
we grew further apart.
Not too often,
but from time to time,
your eyes would catch
a glimpse of mine.
Then she'd grab your arm
and pull you away.
There was no stealing time
for us those days.
But either luck was with us
or the planets aligned,
for a chance encounter
one hot summer night.
After years of holding back,
we just had to let go,
making me realize,
I still love you so.
We're alone in the country,
your hand holding mine,
and here we are again,
we're stealing time.
