My body's in a mess

Last night you said, "My body's in a mess".
Refusing to receive my fond caress
I could hear you hold back unbidden tears;
The result of those so natural fears.
At my admonishment your soul you bared
And this morning added how you were scared
That the dreaded cancer would strike anew,
Leave you helpless before the toxic brew.

Your body's often wrought by pains I know
And it's not so easy a smile to show.
But the pains from the chemo, so they say,
Will heal as time passes, will go away.
Your body is beautiful, full of life
Encompassing the woman who's my wife,
A woman with passion who knows to fight,
Knows at the end of the tunnel there's light.

Your body's no mess, though letting you down,
But it's temporary, so stop the frown
And let your spiritual beauty out.
Added to your physical there's no doubt
You'll continue to melt my heart and soul,
Continue to fulfill your loving role.
So don't you worry, just go with the flow
Start to smile again, stop feeling so low.

Thinking positive is more than mere words,
Certainly not something that's for the birds.
It requires faith and unbounded hope;
Awareness of life that's beyond our scope.
I'm here to help you whenever you need
And together no question we'll succeed,
By using positive thinking techniques,
To restore the glow to my peach's cheeks
