In One Hand

In one hand I hold a hand dying
A lifeless body they say
can't hear me,
can't see me,
doesn't know me
I know different,
warm fingers hold mine while I fight crying
I talk loud, I know he hears
I sit close, I know he can see
I say my name, I know he knows me

In the other hand I hold a cell phone
and listen to a tirade of loath
and how I have no soul
judgements decreed on my character
by a dark benefactor
the screams and names won't leave me alone
I can't ignore twenty missed calls
make it stop, just stop

My hands are full
both lives pulling me
draining me
pulling me under

In one hand I watch as life fades away
a final breath, a flutter of eyes and a smile
a breath of a word I can't catch because
my ear is listening to insults and venom
But at least he finally knew he wasn't alone
he threw us all away but I wouldn't let him die alone

I won't let him die alone
Plugs pulled, thrown under the bus,
Because nobody wanted responsibility
All is in chaos spinning free

In the other hand I listen
to twisted laughing
to final judgement and damnation
while a weak smile over here gives me
hope
of something sitting on the other side
redemption?

Nobody deserves to be given up on.
