Dragging along an empty street

I prayed that no one’s path I’d meet

To be alone, on a night so cold

Was my only hope; but dreams unfold

I saw her there, huddled by a fire

Shaking and shuddering in drab attire

As I approached, she could only smile

Said she’d been waiting for quite awhile

That’s when I felt the lump in my throat

As I fell, she gave me her dirty coat

I looked at her through blurry eyes

Begging to hear anything but sweetened lies

She put both hands around my head

She pat me on the cheek and said

“Young child don’t you cry no more

Depression's no way to win this war

Your journey of love has just begun

Lift up your heart, for death’s not won

All you need’s time and time you’ve got

The battle’s done, and well you fought

Time to move, learn from your fears

Stand tall, look up, wipe away those tears

Always remember just who you are

That thought will always get you far

What you deserve is a simpler task

Freedom from that pitiful mask

And I hope one day you’ll finally see

Just how beautiful you can be

I hope one day you’ll finally know

And allow your own true self to show”

I looked back up, no one was there

On my own I’d have to bear

My regrets and demons and throbbing pain

The things that no longer kept me sane

I heard her voice again in my ears

“Time to move, learn from your fears”

I nodded once, refused to be beat

And against all odds, was back on my feet.
