Lingering Love

When I saw you walk away I felt my heart shatter
my world crashed down, nothing else mattered.
That's when I learned the hard way
there's no letting go of a lingering love.

And while I don't regret a single memory
I can't accept knowing that you're not with me.
So take the words I love you that I promised true
Hold onto them tight and know they're still for you.

While I lay in bed and dream of your face
praying for us in a different time and place.
And though it may not happen please smile for me
And know that in my heart you'll always be.

So fingers crossed and wishes made
I know our love will never fade.
Cause I learned the hard hay
there's no letting go of a lingering love.
